Here’s the link to the lip balm that we start talking about in the episode. If you go to Jill’s Etsy shop, let her know you found out about her on the Podketeers podcast! 🙂

The Growler! We didn’t get a chance to get a picture of the growler alone but this is what it looks like (stock image from the Hanger 24 Brewery website). Seriously. It’s fantastical!
We also talked about the cool Beatles pancake art featured in the video below.
Here’s an image from the Beatles cartoon on ABC:
The cartoon ran for 3 seasons in 1965 thru 1967 and they made a total of 39 episodes. The coolest Disney connection is the Haunted Mansion’s very own Paul Frees (the Ghost Host) provided the voices of John and George. In the 1987 the series was brought back on MTV and (here’s another crazy Disney connection) Mark Hamill guest hosted the MTV run of the series. As far as the Jungle Book itself, the vultures in the movie were originally going to be voiced the Beatles. Cool, huh? Although we’re not sure how long it will be up, check out an episode below:
What did you think of the episode? So here’s the question of the week: Would the Beatles’ participation in the Jungle Book have saved it or made it worse? Leave a comment below.
So until next time, here’s to beers, cheers and Mickey ears!

Wow! Thank you guys for the props!! As a token of appreciation, I created coupon code PODKETEERS20 for 20% off purchases over $5 on my etsy shop which is linked above. I do run an Art Walk special of two lip balms for $5. My newer lip balms do not contain coconut oil, for those with nut allergies and I will have a vegan version coming soon.
Once again this episode had me laughing! You guys totally had a moment with that beer! Maple leaf rag as the segue music was awesome because on my mind I hear that the second I step into Disneyland proper.
Wow! Thank you so much, that’s a very generous offer! We’ll make sure to share this!
Another great podcast fellas!
The Beatles and Disney are my two favorite things. The idea of them combining forces is intriguing indeed, but I don’t think a collaboration would have been as good in reality as it looks on paper. The Jungle Book is a movie driven by music. It was Walt who completely flipped the script on the animators when he changed it to a Jazz – based soundtrack. His love of jazz was profound as we all know (Club 33 was to originally include a Jazz venue) and his influence on the film made it the swinging story we now know and love. He brought in Louis Prima for his characteristic, light-hearted jazz stylings which play well with the medium of animation but do not take over.
If the Beatles had been brought in, their popularity would have hindered both the production and the consumption of the Jungle Book. They would have insisted on writing their own material and likely wouldn’t be interested in the themes of Kipling’s beloved classic except when Mowgli sees the beautiful young girl at the end. When it hit theatres they would be flooded with throngs of screaming teenage girls who would ruin the show for everybody else. It was for this same reason the Beatles stopped performing live shows all together in 1966.
I could go on and on about this idea forever so I better cut it short. I will end by saying I think Paul McCartney could do a wonderful job scoring and songwriting on a Disney film today the way Elton John and Phil Collins did. The Beatles would be all too much.
Happy birthday John Lennon!
Great insight, Gavin! I personally agree with your comments about how Louis Prima made a lot of the movie successful with his singing and music style. I don’t think we even considered the possibility of the Beatles hindering the project by wanting to create their own music. Great points!
I think why ‘The Haunted Mansion’ movie failed is because Disney was trying to recreate lighting in a bottle. The lightening in the bottle I’m referencing to is the massive box office success of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.’ This intentionally set in motion the attempt to re-brand key Disney attractions. This was very short lived due to the flop of ‘The Haunted Mansion’ movie. I believe they still ended up updating The Haunted Mansion ride like they did with Pirates of the Caribbean.
I believe the reason PotC movie worked is because it was already based on a ton of Non-Disney lore and built on to it. ‘The Haunted Mansion’ movie did the complete opposite with their source material. They kinda just went through the motions of adding stuff that was in the ride for the sake of a fan boy moment. Anyway, there has been talks of director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) doing a reboot of the movie. I really enjoy his work so maybe in will…….PAN out. I enjoy the show guys! I’m a new listener and can’t wait to listen to future episodes!
First off, thanks for listening and your support, Kenneth!
Fantastic points! I will say that I don’t think I’m the only one that is happy Eddie Murphy is not in the Mansion. LOL! I completely agree with the “fanboy” moments that you’re talking about. I have heard that Guillermo Del Toro is in talks to do a new version of the movie and I can sum that up in 3 words: I. Can’t. Wait! 🙂 Do you feel that the movie would have been more successful as a non-branded Disney film?
