In this episode we mention that we know some people that have experiences with paranormal activity while working or visiting2 Disneyland or California Adventure? Call the Podketeers Line at 626-506-2263 and leave us your story so that we can air it as part of a future episode!
Happy birthday, Disney California Adventure!
This past week DCA celebrated it’s 14th year and there have been so many changes! Below is a re-post from my (@heyzenc) Instagram account where we can see what the old version of Paradise Pier looked like.
One of the biggest changes that came to the park since it opened was the addition of Cars Land. Here is a photo of the construction back in Novemeber of 2011. Remember when that X-1 fighter plane was coming out of that restaurant? Well, I forgot what it was called on the podcast but it was the ‘Taste Pilot’s Grill’. The plane was removed when Buena Vista Street was built because John Lasseter said it would distract and break the illusion of Buena Vista Street. Do you think he’s right? Check it out below:
Early on, DCA also had a bunch of artists paint their own renditions of Mickey Mouse. Here is the an image from the Yesterland website of the exhibit called Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations.
One of the recent changes coming to DCA is that Luigi’s Flying Tires is going away. Did you like Luigi’s Flying Tires? Did you ever get it to work properly? Also, if you missed our write-up, click the image below for more info:
Finally, we made a reference to something called ‘Teen Girl Squad’ from the site Homestarrunner.com (we think it’s funny). If you’re interested, check out the first episode below:
Hey guys! Fun episode!!! Anyways, the trick to the Luigi’s tires, you must lean towards the direction you want it to move. I’ve tried it TWICE. The first time, there were 3 of is squished into one tire. My brother is also a fluffy guy, and I’m not as skinny either, and then my slim cousin. WE DID NOT MOVE AT ALL! Then I got on it with a 11 year old, and IT WORKS!
But either way, not my favorite ride, but I do LOVE the queue line! Haha. I’ve got a thing for all things Italy… Except my boyfriend. Lol.
Keep up the great work guys! You have been improving one episode at a time and I always anticipate your next episode!
Live long and PROSPER! \\//,
The queue is definitely beautiful! The Imagineers did a great job with it! I’m hoping to make it out this weekend to give it one last try since Monday Feb 16, 2015 is it’s last day.
Thanks! We really try to put out and improve with each episode. 🙂
Hey Guys! Another great episode but I do have to say: Javier was right! Mulholland Madness was rethemed into Goofy’s Flight School. The track is exactly the same, just the theming and naming were changed in 2010-2011 as part of the Paradise Pier makeover. It is one of my favorite rides between the two parks, especially at night. In the Backlot, Monsters Inc. replaced this horrible dark ride called Superstar Limo that didn’t even last a full year from the Feb 7 opening date of the park.
Regarding the Flying Tires, I think my husband and I were some of the only adults that a) successfully rode it and b) thoroughly enjoyed it! We rode it together (and I’m on the fluffier side) and for us it was just as simple as leaning slightly in the direction you wanted to go. I’ll miss it! It was always a guaranteed quick line for a fun ride since so many adults didn’t like it.
Thanks for your weekly updates and all the work that goes into it! We really enjoy listening!
Thanks, Ashley! You and Javier are totally right (btw, I don’t remember really ever riding either before their re-brandings).
I tried riding it again recently and realized I was leaning too far because I kept feeling it slam on the ground. By the time I felt I kinda got it the ride was over. Considering how many people are messaging us telling us they were able to ride it, I’m gonna conclude it was user-error (on my part). Oh well. Hopefully the next ride won’t be as “tricky” to ride and more people will get to enjoy it. 🙂
