The egg-stravaganza Easter egg hunt was really fun! Here is a look at the maps for Disneyland and California Adventure. The maps themselves are $5 and you get a small prize at the end of the game (regardless of whether you complete the hunt). The “egg-stravaganza” will run from March 27 – April 5, 2015.

In 2007 when it was brought to my attention that my son may have an ASD or Autism Spectrum Disorder, the current statistic was 1 in 200, within a year, that dropped to 1:150. It kept dropping steadily, and the current CDC admission in 1 in 50 children. When you think about average school class sizes being 25+ students, 4 classes to a grade, that averages 2 kids that are on the spectrum and may be struggling.
It almost seemed like my son’s teacher was expecting a reaction from us with this bombshell. I had none. I knew my son was different. I had learned to roll with it. There were days when he would melt down but he’s my first and only kid, so I figured it was all process.
If you think you notice something, don’t hesitate to have your child tested. I wanted until he was 14 and past the prime age for therapies that could have had him better adjusted as the high functioing autistic he is today.
If you know someone autistic, if you love someone autistic, wear blue on April 2, put blue lights up, show your support for the autism community! Next time you see a child acting oddly, it might not be a spoiled tantrum, it might be a kid struggling to cope. Show support. Wear blue, wear puzzle pieces, learn more about helping.
PS. Disneyland is my son’s happy place. He says it’s the one place he feels he can walk away from us without fear of being noticed or singled out.
